Museum of Vukovar
Museum of Vukovar was founded in 1948. with various donations of furniture, weapons, Roman and new paintings which city received as a gift from Dr. Antun Bauer. In 1966, museum was moved to the Eltz Castle. The history of the museum is very interesting because it contained a large number of exhibits, as many as 50, 000.
During the war, the castle has suffered enormous damage, and a large number of exhibits was destroyed or taken away to Serbia. In the period from 1991 to 1997 Museum of Vukovar was located in Zagreb, more precisely in Mimara Museum. After great effort and activities of Croatian Ministry of Culture, part of the collection was finally returned to Vukovar in 2001.
Musem of Vukovar received prestigious award Anton Štifanić for special contribution to the development of the Croatian tourism.
